Letters Nominating Miller for the Spanos Distinguished Teaching Award

PDF of the letter Kathleen Peterson wrote when nominating Sally Miller for the Spanos Distinguished Teaching Award.

Kathleen Peterson was a senior at the College of the Pacific. She describes how all of the faculty at Pacific are accomplished instructors, but Sally Miller possed excellence that made her most deserving of the award.

Two other students, Michele Ennis and Carole Hensley also wrote letters to nominate Miller for the Faye and Alex Spanos Distinguished Teaching Award in 1983. This award is reported on UOP's website to be the highest honor a member of the faculty can receive.

These threee letters are similar in content. They all describe how the students took classes with Sally Miller and were inspired by her teaching. Carole Hensley states in her letter that the education she received from Sally Miller "...left the greatest impact... in terms of further education and career goals." Kathleen Peterson emphasizes how open Miller was to helping students outside of class. Michele Ennis liked the relaxed nature of Miller's classes and how she set clear expectations and goals for the students in class. Ennis also explains how important Miller's work with Stockton Immigrant Women was and how the immigrant interviews inspired students.
