Pacific's Hidden Native History

This 1920s article from the Stockton Record outlines the public reaction to the discovery of Native American remains on the UOP campus.

University of the Pacific’s Stockton campus stands upon the land formerly occupied by the Yokuts people. The Yokuts tribe lived on the banks of the Calaveras for centuries, fishing in the river and engaging in horticulture. Pressure from settlers and disease forced them off the land.  As the Stockton campus was built in the 1920s, there were a number of discoveries of native remains. Native students have also studied at University of Pacific, and these students and native community members have contributed to campus life.
