The collection is built upon the work of Dr. Sally Miller, who was a Professor of History at the University of the Pacific in Stockton, California. She organized a conference and three seminars concerning Stockton immigrant women in 1980-81. Miller had her students interview sixty-five women of twenty-seven nationalities ranging in age from twenty to ninety years old. Most of the women interviewed had come to the United States between 1920 and 1950.
