About fifty red-blooded patriotic students gathered in the "gym" last Monday afternoon for their first drill in army commands under the direction of the retired officer, Mr. L. R. Walker. Mr. Walker is a very competent man for this work having had seven year's experience as an officer. He introduced himself to the fellows and gave them a fifteen minute lecture on the necessity of obeying commands. He then started at the very beginning of army drill by teaching the "soldiers" to "right dress". The next commands were "right, left and about face". The boys were then directed in (Continued on page 2) the orders of "forward march", "column right and left", " to the rear march", and "company halt". Before the drill was over, "Bill Fireside" was dismissed from the room on account of disorder and loud yelling. The "would-bes", although rather green, showed marked intelligence and control; In the three weeks that are left of this semester, they should receive sufficient training to enter the army without spending much time in the awkward squad.
