Digital Humanities scholarship thrives when sources are accessible and unrestricted. This blog details the contents of six different sites that offer a blend of open and restricted materials.

- Holt-Atherton at the University of the Pacific specializes in primary sources that focus on Western Americana, especially California, Stockton, and the University of the Pacific. Among its most important collections are the John Muir Papers, the George Moscone Papers, and a Japanese American Internment Collection. Sources are searchable through the Online Archives of California (https://oac.cdlib.org/institutions/University+of+the+Pacific) as well as through UOP’s Scholarly Commons (https://scholarlycommons.pacific.edu/hasc/). The collections are not searchable public domain items, but many of the collections feature unpublished manuscripts by authors who died before 1945. The library requests credit for the items, but many are in the public domain. The John Muir papers are not all in the public domain. The Muir-Hanna Trust renewed copyright on most of Muir’s unpublished drawings, journals, and notebooks in 1984.
